Famous Movies Shot in Santorini

Graced to be eternally forged by the fierce volcanic powers, Santorini is an island known for its unparalleled beauty. Its distinct Cylcalid architecture is perfectly depicted in its whitewashed edifices, the narrow cobbled streets and the azure-domed churches that constitute the perfect setting, not only for the holidaymakers but also for film directors. Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in the action-packed movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) that filmed in many places, including Santorini. Oia offered its hospitality bounteously to the producers and the cast. It’s more likely not to experience the island as miss Croft did, but you 'll certainly get an idea of island's intriguing charm. 

 

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants filmed in 2005, is the adaptation of a novel for teens and tells their story that takes place on the island. The film captures the viewers' attention with its magnificent views of Santorini and the otherworldly landscape.

 

D’ Agostino was filmed in 2011 and follows the story of a businessman that is fed up with his life in London and seeks in Santorini its own refuge. So far so good; but being a thriller movie, D’Agostino isn’t exactly the typical film that aims to point out the beauties of the setting. So don't expect tranquil moments and romance!

 

Back in 1982, comedy stars Daryl Hannah and Peter Gallagher traveled to Santorini to take part in Summer Lovers. The movie couple has their relationship tested as they spend their vacations on the island. Besides the magnificent landscapes, the film is also famous for its soundtrack, “I am so excited” by the Pointer Sisters!

 

Santorini Blue was shot in Santorini in 2013 featuring a story about love, heartbreak and passion. The film encompasses magnificent views of the island providing a melange of tranquil images.
