On the northern part of Santorini and along the caldera, we will saunter around two of the most famous and picturesque villages that are also hot spots to cherish the mesmerizing sunset, Imerovigli and Oia. The first, among other things, is home to one of the hallmarks of the island, Skaros rock. The latter, flashes its stunning cave houses that nestle on the volcanic rim, some impressive 18th-century mansions, and charming winding alleys.
Located at the highest hill of Santorini, Pyrgos offers a spectacular panoramic view of the island, all the way to Oia. It is one of the five fortress settlements of the island, built around a Venetian castle, also known as Kasteli, and consists of traditional houses as well as beautiful churches. Heading to the south, we will explore Emporio, the largest village of Santorini that once was its thriving commercial center. Emporio was another fortified village; hence, its medieval character exudes an ideal ambiance for a leisurely stroll in its narrow streets and alleys. On the southernmost part of Santorini, next to the famous Red Beach, the amphitheatrically built Akrotiri was a significant Minoan settlement in prehistoric times. Here we will explore the excavations in a sophisticated ancient city, and the Lighthouse, which lies exactly on the axis of the shipping lane from Piraeus to Alexandria!
